Cycling over quiet roads
The mountains around Cómpeta are great for cycling. It is a hilly to mountainous region with many steep and less steep climbs. The roads are very quiet and the road surface is usually well maintained. Popular routes are the mountain roads that start at sea level and then rise to around 700 meters, such as the road from Torrox to Cómpeta and from Algarrobo to Cómpeta. You can also challenge yourself by driving along the flanks of the Tejeda massif to Salares, Sedella and on to Canillas de Aceituno. Besides these, more challenging and longer routes are possible.Some beautiful cycling routes:
- Cómpeta -Algarobbo – Torrox – Cómpeta. Distance: 50km, elevation: 800m.
- Cómpeta – Torrox- Frigiliana- Nerja- Torrox- Cómpeta. Distance: 58km, elevation: 1200m.
- Cómpeta – Canillas de Aceituno – Trapiche – Velez-Málaga– Arenas – Cómpeta. Distance: 80km, elevation: 1600m.
- Cómpeta – Canillas de Aceituno – Trapiche – Benamargosa – Cutar – Velez-Málaga– Arenas - Cómpeta . Distance: 115km, elevation: 2100m.
Rent a bike
If you want to go mountain biking, there are many possibilities. From wide unpaved mountain roads to narrow paths in the mountains. But take into account that what seems easy is often quite tough because of the steep passages. Mountain bikes or racing bikes can be arranged for you through the local outdoor agency Salamandra in Cómpeta or at Cyclemalaga. Here you can also rent professional E-bikes that make the climbing easier.
